Question:
Anyone have any experience or knowledge about mosquito bite allergies? As
a child, any mosquito bite would swell ridiculously (i.e. one bite took
over my entire face). My brother had the same problem. It wasn't
particularly dangerous, just uncomfortable and sometimes embarassing. I
took Benadryl (back when it was still prescription) from May through
September every summer as a proactive treatment and still had fairly
severe reactions. I also coated myself in every bug spray possible and
they still managed to chew me to pieces. I was evidently very tempting to
mosquitos. Since my brother and I both had this, I'm inclined to believe
it's a hereditary thing. We both grew out of it around 12 or 13. I'm just
wondering if my baby will have this, too. Of course, I intend to try to
keep him from ever being bitten, but I know that didn't work a bit for me.
I didn't know anyone else who had this problem when I was a kid and I'm
just wondering how common it is and what are the chances of passing it on.
Also, anyone have any idea what makes one person more appetizing to
mosquitos? My Grandpa always said it was because I was so sweet, but
there's probably a more scientific reason
Answer:
I hear you about mosquito bites. If there's one within a 100km they'll
find me. People joke about inviting me to bbq's. They say if I come
the mosquitos will leave everyone else alone.
When I get a bite, it swells to the size of a quarter. I come by this
honestly because my father is the same. The only thing that really
helps me is an application of a paste made of rubbing alcohol and
aspirin. I suppose you could use ibuprofen instead of aspirin.
