Question:
We have had an incredibly wet spring here in Colorado and the bugs are
bad ! Are black light bug zappers effective ? I mean I know they kill bugs,
but they also attract bugs. So the real question is do people get bitten less
when one of those zappers is working ?? How about any other effective methods ?
Answer:
-This is just two cents from someone who "did" three years in Houston.
They do attract critters, lizards, bugs, etc., but I really believe they
work is placed in view of, but away from where you are enjoying the
out-of-doors. Our greatest problem was mosquitoes, every yard in the
neighborhood had a bug zapper, and they zapped all evening.
I still use our old zapper during the summer months in our real home,
-they work best when located 15<>30 feet away from where you are at
because as you say they draw the bugs. the first time i used one i didn't
read the instructions & put it about 10' from the table - served like a
beacon for them critters
-If you have a yard to accomodate it, a bat nesting box can attract bats that
will harves the mosquitos, and bats are not the nuisance folks make em out
to be.
