Question:
We are going on a backpacking excursion through SE Asia (Thailand,
Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Brunei, Singapore) for about
6 months, in cities and off the beaten path. We'll likely be taking
anti-malarials, but still realize that mosquitos can carry all sorts of
diseases. Our books tell us to bring a mosquito net for sleeping.
Basically, we'll be in budget to mid-range hotels. Some will probably
provide nets, others won't. How necessary is it to bring one? Are they
bulky? Do hotels usually have a hook or something over the bed to attach
them?
Answer:
, I spend more than nine months in SE Asia. I stopped taking malaria pills
after two months. Never carried a mosquito net and got sick once. A parasite
in my guts after swimming in fresh water. Be carefull, dress well and use a
lot of DEET. Most places have windows covered with nets. If you have any
questions you can e-mail me. By the way I'm of again in october for six
months.
