Question:
Does anybody know the name of the plant to keep Mosquitos away and do they
work?
Answer:
-Citronella plants. Yes, they do work - that's where citronella candles get
their scent from. There are several other plants that chase mosquitos too.
Check out www.pcgardens.com. They have a lit of insect repelling plants.
-The mosquito geranium "citrosa" as well as the lemon geranium
are consider mosquito reppellent BUT they ONLY work if you rub
the leaves on your skin (the smell is pleasant) and the reppelling
effect can last from 10 to 20 minutes depending on the health
of your plants. The adds about the plant "scaring" mosquitoes
away is just "pulling your leg". In fact if you keep the plant to
wet mosquitoes will place their larvae in the plants soil:-)
The leaves are lots better than using commercial insect
reppellent that can cause long term illness.
