Question:
I remember when I was young that mosquito bites would turn red and
swell up in a few hours after the bite. Then the next morning the
itching and redness would be gone.
Now, that I am older these darn mosquito bites seem to last for days.
The itchiness and redness slowly decreases during the 2 to 3 day
interval.
The only thing that I can think of that I do differently is that I take a
multivitamin/multimineral supplement everyday.
Could this be simply a natural result of the aging process or
is it that I am more allergic to mosquito bites now as compared to when
I was younger? Has anyone else noticed unusual reactions to mosquito bites?
Answer:
-Actually, exactly the opposite has happened to me. I no longer get welts at
all from mosquito bites. I always figured that the mosquito population had
done its own desensitization series on me, over time.
-Same thing happened to me as I grew older - but I also moved from the
midwest to New England. I assumed it was the steriod-laden mosquito(e)s
of New England and not my age.
-I have read that insects can act as vectors for impetigo. So if
there is a sore from a mosquito bite that won't go away and gets
raw, maybe it's slightly infected.
